Research Integrity

"Integrity in research means that the organizations in which research is conducted encourage those involved to exemplify these values in every step of the research process: planning, proposing, performing, and reporting their work; reviewing proposals and work by others; training the next generation of researchers; and maintaining effective stewardship of the scholarly record."

(Fostering Integrity in Research, National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. 2017)

The FAS Research Integrity Office employs evidence-based approaches and community driven solutions to foster a culture of integrity, rigor, reproducibility and ethical conduct of research.

The FAS Research Integrity Office staffs and supports the work of the FAS Standing Committee on Professional Conduct (CPC). With broad representation from the different disciplines, the CPC is responsible for review of allegations of research misconduct and other research integrity matters against members of the FAS research community in accordance with applicable institutional policies and federal regulations.

We support the FAS research community by developing and implementing research integrity policies and guidance, curating resources and organizing trainings focused on improving research integrity and collaborating with other Harvard University offices to create a supportive network to advance research excellence through integrity.

We furthermore ensure research misconduct allegations are handled in a fair, confidential and efficient manner to ensure timely completion and appropriate disposition of matters.
