From Nature Masterclasses, this webinar is exclusively available to the Harvard community. This bonus session is adapted from our two-hour Expert Trainer-led Nature Masterclassesworkshop. It begins with an introduction to the fundamentals of generative AI, including how these tools use statistical patterns learned from training data to generate content. We then explore key limitations of generative AI, such as hallucinations, bias, and ethical considerations, highlighting the importance of human oversight. Next, we review common publisher editorial policies regarding the use of generative AI, including authorship, AI-generated images, disclosure of AI use, and the use of AI during peer review. The session concludes with practical, responsible use cases for generative AI that can help improve productivity in academic writing. **Registration required**. [Flier available](/sites/g/files/omnuum1751/files/2026-09/Workshop_Harnessing-generative-AI_A4_Harry_Shirley_0.pdf "Flier - Harnessing Generative AI in Academic Writing") as well.
