Data Carpentry is a **two-day**, beginner-friendly workshop that will give you the foundational knowledge to take on data-intensive research with confidence. Data and technical skills are in high demand in the public policy field. You'll be able to use the basic tools and concepts taught in this workshop in your coursework and your career. Plus, you'll get free breakfast and lunch on both days, and build community with folks within and beyond the HKS community!

Here is what you'll learn and when:

- **Friday, September 6, 9AM-4:30PM, Spreadsheets and R** | Learn how to enter, format, and organize your data. Get started learning how to analyze your data in a reproducible way.
- **Friday, September 13, 9AM-4:30PM, OpenRefine and R** | Learn how to clean and fix errors in your data. Continue learning how to analyze your data in a reproducible way, and start visualizing it.

**Who Can Join?:** This workshop is geared toward graduate students and other researchers. You don't need to have any previous knowledge of the tools presented at this workshop. Both HKS affiliates and non-affiliated learners are welcome.

**Requirements:** Bring a laptop with a Mac, Linux, or Windows operating system (not a tablet, Chromebook, etc.) on which you have administrative privileges. Before the workshop, you'll need to download the programs we'll be using. Details will be provided after your register.

**Accessibility:** The HKS Library encourages individuals with disabilities to participate in our events. [**To request an accommodation, email us**](mailto:library_research@hks.harvard.edu) or call 617-495-1300.
